Spring Clean Your Beauty Supplies

Its that time again ladies and it must be done: Spring clean your beauty supplies including that cluttered make-up drawer. If you are unsure if this major clean needs to be done ask yourself this question, have you had it a year without using it? If your answer is yes than don't hesitate immediately throw it away without a second thought.

HAIR BRUSHES & COMBS:

When you get ready to brush your hair do you hesitate because its so dirty you don't want the built up gunk in your hair?

Hairbrushes and combs get dirty with repeated use, especially if you use styling products on your hair. Wash your hair brush and comb every 1-2 weeks with shampoo (a tooth-pick &/or tooth brush can be used as a tool to clean those nasty gunky brushes and combs/ also soak in hot water if your comb and brush is really dirty).

BLUSH, CONCEALER & FOUNDATION:

Why is it that your make-up bag and/ or drawer is so cluttered? The answer is simple, because you have held on to make-up too long. Make-up can carry bacteria after several uses so it is key to throw it away once the shelf life has expired.

**Stop holding on to make-up even when there is just a little left.

- Oil-Free Foundation: 1 year

- Cream or Compact Foundation: 18 months

- Concealer: 12-18 months

- Powder: 2 years

- Blush and Bronzer: 2 years

- Cream Blush: 12-18 months

EYELINER, MASCARA, EYE SHADOW & LIP STICK:

I know its hard to tell if your mascara and lip sticks are still good enough to use. But they too have a shelf life and become contaminated with bacteria. Do you really want to put a nasty bacteria so close to your eyes and mouth?

- Eyeliner: 2 years

- Liquid eyeliner: 3-6 months

- Mascara: 3 months

- Powder Eye shadow: 2 years

-Cream Eye shadow: 12-18 months

- Lipstick: 2 years

- Lip liner: 2 years

- Lip gloss: 18-24 months

NAIL POLISH:

Nail Polish is the one beauty item we hold on to the longest. As long as the little silver ball is still inside, so we can shake-it-up, we keep on using it. I am guilty of this too.

I know I have bottles of nail polish that are older then 5 years old. And as part of this years Spring cleaning I am throwing out every bottle and heading over to Sally's Beauty Supply store to buy some new bottles and hot new colors.

I know there are some of you still wanting to hold on to your favorite nail color. But ask your self this, has your bottle of nail polish started to clump up and no longer glides on easily? If your answer is yes then its most definitely time to pitch it and get a new one.

- Nail Polish: 1 year

MAKE-UP BRUSHES & SPONGES:

Even your make-up brushes and sponges (including sponges that come with your compact) need to be thrown away.

- Make-up Brushes : 2 years (cleaning once a month with baby shampoo)

- Sponges: 1 month

***If you are using natural cosmetics, these should be thrown out sooner. Regular cosmetics contain ingredients that do help prolong shelf life. But of course natural cosmetics do not.

EBay is working with fashion brands and retailers such as French Connection to act as sellers. The new micro-site, www.fashion.ebay.com, will bring together several new ways of selling.

The launch of the new fashion site has everyone buzzing (launched on Monday April 5th). This change is the latest in a series of changes that will have EBay acting more like an outlet mall or "private sale" Web site.
