Four beautiful sisters harmonizing to make one voice. The ladies of JAZMIN have combined their sense of style, personalities, talents and passions to entertain and create great music. SayWhatNews had the pleasure of sitting down and getting to know Nadia, Felicia, Celia and Daria of the group JAZMIN. The ladies spoke in depth about their lives, music and up coming projects:

SayWhatNews: Good morning, sisters with one voice. Thanks so much for taking the time out of your busy schedule and speaking with SayWhatNews. Tell us who is Jazmin?

JAZMIN: We are 4 sisters who love to sing and we make up JAZMIN!

SayWhatNews: Can each sister introduce themselves and tell us something about yourself that fans don‘t know?

Nadia – Hi it’s Nadia and I’m the big sister! I am the camp counselor, health coach and fashion consultant for JAZMIN! Ask me anything about food, make-up or clothes and I’ll have advice ready! I’m a Disney fan too but that’s a whole other interview. My favorite past-time is relaxing with the family to my favorite jams!

Felicia – What’s goin’ on it’s Felifel! If I could wear basketball shorts and dunks everyday I would and I have an addiction for huge jewelry. I love painting, dancing, throwing parties and getting people together whether it’s an art show, a birthday party or a night out with some good friends!

Celia – Yo! It’s Celia though my friends call me Silly – pun intended. I love life and am a glass-half-full type of girl. I’m always groovin’ or boppin’ to something somewhere. I like personalizing and customizing everything I rock from head to toe. My family is my motivation – can’t live without them. The one thing they know about me too well that you may not know is that I am a forever diehard LAKERS fan. Purple and gold all day!

Daria – Hey it’s Daria the baby of the family! Yes, I am the youngest of the four so I’ve learned a lot from my sisters and am a little mix of everybody. I love anything that has to deal with music. Give me anything with a good beat and I’m there. I’m singing 24/7 whether it’s in the shower, in the car, or while I’m sitting in your living room. My life is a musical. Writing songs is definitely a must for me and I’m always looking for new and exciting ways to dress!

SayWhatNews: Ok, so Nadia is the eldest then comes Felicia, then Celia and Daria is the youngest. At what age did you ladies discover you had the gift of song?

Jazmin: We were probably around 2 years old when we started to love music because we grew up with it constantly in our house. Our mom was a piano teacher and our father was a preacher so singing at church came with the territory, and we loved it! Music was everywhere whether it was playing on a record player or on the piano. Singing was just a natural thing to do!

SayWhatNews: So, what song was one of your favorites to sing in church?

Jazmin: Amazing Grace was one of our favorites because it is such a powerful and beautiful song and it reminds us of God’s grace to us. You can’t help but feel emotional when singing it. Dona Nobis Pacem was another one that we sang a lot which means “Give Us Peace”. It was a fun one because we were able to sing it with multiple part harmony and in a round!

SayWhatNews: What inspired the name of the group JAZMIN and does it have meaning?

JAZMIN: JAZMIN was inspired by our love for jazz swing music and the Asian Jasmine flower which symbolizes happiness. We combined the two words and created JAZMIN!

SayWhatNews: Each sister brings their own unique touch to the group: Nadia has a background in fashion, Felicia is a talented painter and has an eye for design, Celia is a journalism major and loves NBA basketball and Daria has the voice that holds the group together. Tell us how each of you found your love/interest and how it has fused together to make the group JAZMIN what it is today?

Nadia – Creativity runs in our family due to our parent’s background. It was only natural that I studied drawing, painting, photography, ceramics and art history in college. When I graduated with a BA in Studio Art I needed to find a job near home and went into retail “temporarily”, which I ended up loving, and it turned into a management job which then gave me opportunities to be a rep as well as a buyer in the fashion industry. Because of this experience I understand the importance of style and am able to incorporate my knowledge of trends and staples into the JAZMIN wardrobe!

Felicia – I love being creative, so when I wasn’t doing music with my sisters I used to draw to cure my boredom. I started painting and now I showcase my music-inspired pieces and tell people about my passion for music and JAZMIN at my shows. My love for art became a love for design as well. When JAZMIN first started out we needed a website so I taught myself how to create one and since then I became the point person for all of our viral online marketing and publicity material.

Celia – Because music and church was the main focus in our family sports was somewhat banned in our house. But that just made me have a stronger inclination to learn more about it, especially basketball. The passion of the players enticed me to sneakily listen to ballgames on the radio and eavesdrop on boys’ conversations at school just to hear about last night’s game! This passion motivated my zeal to pursue our dream of JAZMIN by never giving up and putting everything on the line, just for the love of the “game.” As for my journalism side, writing and sharing knowledge is something I always enjoyed and now comes in handy when writing songs!

Daria – I’ve always loved singing with my sisters ever since I was 2 years old. Our parents would play Beach Boys, Carpenters and Sound of Music records around the house so we were always surrounded by good old school music. When I was in Middle School I would rush home from school, lock myself in my room and listen to my Sony CD Player. I lived in those headphones. I know every word and rift to Destiny’s Child “Writings on the Wall” and the album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill”. I listened to those two albums everyday and memorized how Beyonce and Lauryn Hill sang until I developed my own style of singing. After discovering new types of Hip Hop, Pop and R&B, I knew from then on I was in love.

SayWhatNews: Wow, I see why your group is so unique in its own special way. JAZMIN appeared on MTV’s new reality series, ‘Top Pop Group’ and made it as finalists. How amazing was it to compete and make it to the finals?

JAZMIN: It was one of our first time performing live on national television and it felt like a coming of age experience as we discovered new things about ourselves and became better as both people and artists! We met the most amazing people and had so much fun! It was definitely something that we will never forget and we are so blessed that we made it through to the end!

SayWhatNews: The MTV show gave you nation-wide exposure and also allowed JAZMIN to work along-side and receive critical praise from platinum selling artists like Ashanti, Keri Hilson, Omarion, Eve, Taboo (Black Eyed Peas) and Michelle Williams (Destiny Child). What was the most memorable moment and why?

JAZMIN: One of our most unforgettable moments was our performance of Natasha Bedingfield’s “Pocket Full of Sunshine”. The judges loved it and it gave us confidence knowing that we are meant to do this! What made it the most memorable was that our parents were in the audience and we were so happy that they could be there to share it with us.

SayWhatNews: JAZMIN, you ladies have also competed on other shows: you competed on the hit NBC show, ‘America’s Got Talent’ and made it as a finalist and also on NBC’s ‘Star Tomorrow’ and made it to the Top 100 Bands. Tell us what was it like working with the legendary producer David Foster?

JAZMIN: David Foster is definitely a legend and it was such an honor to meet him! He is a genius at what he does. For him to say we reminded him of other legendary girl groups was unbelievable. We’ll never forget it!

SayWhatNews: Speaking of reality shows, I here Jazmin will soon have their own show, ‘Jazmin Sisters - A Day in the Life’. Can you tell us about the show and what to expect?

JAZMIN: Expect lots of sister shenanigans and love! We like to have fun and we’re not afraid to show it! Everyone’s favorite question is what was it like growing up? Or how do you guys work together? This series is a way to let the world know who JAZMIN was, is and will become!

SayWhatNews: When and where will the series air?

JAZMIN: There will be webisodes online so check our website for the release date!

SayWhatNews: Can we expect an album soon from JAZMIN?

JAZMIN: Yes, we’re in the studio as we speak!

SayWhatNews: Who would Jazmin love to collaborate with and why?

JAZMIN: That is a loaded question! There are so many! Here are some of our top artists we love:Pharrell, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Ludacris, Swizz Beats, Ne-yo, Lil Wayne, Brandy, Rodney Jerkins, Jermaine Dupri and Janet Jackson!

SayWhatNews: Fusing your style with a collaboration with any of those hit-makers would surely be a chart topper. Let’s get personal a-bit: What do you ladies like to do in your spare time for fun?

JAZMIN: One word: DISNEYLAND! If we’re not there, we’re at the beach blasting jams. We’re California Girls to the max!

SayWhatNews: What’s the one song that you ladies can’t get enough of and why?

Nadia – What a difficult question! Well I must say that I could watch the movie “Singing In The Rain” all day long so my favorite song from there is “You Were Meant For Me” by Gene Kelly. I’m a total romantic!

Felicia – This is definitely hard to answer but since I am obsessed with George Gershwin I’d say “Rhapsody in Blue” is one of my favorite songs of all time. Jazz is the origination of true swag!

Celia – Tough question - if I had to choose a memorable one, it would have to be Georges Bizet’s “Carmen”. This was the first melody I heard as a child and it made me want to sing when I didn’t even know how to talk yet!

Daria –There are way too many to name! But if I’d have to name one it would be “Doo Wop (That Thing)” by Lauryn Hill. When I heard that song it was love at first “sight”. I knew then and there that I wanted my voice to evoke that same emotion! The melody, harmonies and rhythm of how she laid down her verse over the beat gave me the chills. I knew that this was real hip hop.

SayWhatNews: If you went on a shopping spree which designers clothes would you buy and why?

Nadia – I would love to wear Stella McCartney because she is so fresh, feminine and chic. Her pieces are beautifully made and easy to wear. D&G also has amazing dresses that I want to squeeze into and I wouldn’t mind owning a piece or two from Chanel either. Chanel is as classic as it gets!

Felicia – Vivienne Westwood and Rachel Roy all the way. I love clothes that have an artistic yet rocker edge.

Celia – Marc Jacobs cause he’s always looking for a good time. Alexander Wang cause he’s cool and comfortable. Balmain cause every girl needs some glitz and glamour in her life. I can go on forever!

Daria – I’ve always been in love with James Perse from the beginning because I love being comfortable. There’s something effortlessly flattering about his shirts that just makes you feel good. Then I’d have to go with Phillip Lim. Everything he has is just so funky, cool, and different. Wearing his clothes makes you feel like you’re walking down a fashion runway even though you’re just on the street.

SayWhatNews: If you had front row tickets to a concert who would be performing?

JAZMIN: Michael Jackson is, hands down, the best entertainer of all time with the utmost passion. He appreciated every moment he had on the stage with each and every single person in the audience. We love him and his music, and he will remain in our hearts forever.

SayWhatNews: What’s next in the future for Jazmin?

JAZMIN: Everything! We’re taking over the world, one song at a time.
