The Motown sound has inspired so many artists as they embark on their musical journey and create their own musical story.  R&B singer/song-writer Karlos Farrar has taken inspiration from the legendary Motown sound and added his own very modern hip flair to it and created a sound that cannot be duplicated.  SayWhatNews got to know all about Karlos and his rising music career:

SayWhatNews:  Hey Karlos! Thanks for sitting down and speaking with SayWhatNews.  First tell us who is Karlos Farrar?

Karlos: No Problem! Thank you for having me! Too sum up who Karlos Farrar with just a few words, I’d say he is a R&B/Pop Artist that's Determined, Humble, Hungry, and Focused. Also I’m someone who loves music and loves creating music for people to enjoy.

SayWhatNews:  I see you were born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, known for the Motown sound.  How has the Motown sound/ history influenced your music?

Karlos: It has influenced me a lot actually. Growing up all I listened to were Motown artists, from Stevie Wonder, to Marvin Gaye, The temptations, the Four Tops, The Jackson 5 and etc. I mean literally that's all my dad would listen too, so that music runs through my veins. I think it has influenced my overall sound in the aspect of when I make R&B records.   I really try to capture that essence of the type of feeling a R&B record should give you. My last single "Ain't No Lady" was about appreciating your woman and letting her know how much you love her. Most of the music from back in the Motown days was like that. So, it definitely rubbed off on me.

SayWhatNews:  Who were your musical influences growing up?

Karlos: My musical influences growing up were Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, R Kelly, Prince, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Ginuwine and New Edition. There are so many, but the majority of the time I’d be listening to one of these artists.

SayWhatNews:  At what age did you discover your gift of song?

Karlos: Actually my mother was the one who told me I could sing when I was 5 or 6 years old.  I was singing a Brandy song in the car. She actually started the whole thing and gave me the confidence to believe in myself when I was younger. I think i actually started to believe I could go somewhere with it when I was in 4th grade. So, about the age of 9 or 10 years old is when I knew this is what I wanted to do and that I could actually sing.

SayWhatNews:  Karlos, you are a multi-talented BMI singer/songwriter who just recently won Tuesday Blends music artist of the year in January 2015.  Tell us about that very moment you learned you had won artist of the year?

Karlos: I mean it was just an over whelming feeling of excitement and accomplishment. Tuesday Blend is a huge Concert and dance event that happens every first Tuesday of the month in Las Vegas. Some of the best artists from all over the country like (Eric Bellinger, Adrian Marcel and etc)  come to perform throughout the year so for me to even be nominated was incredible!

SayWhatNews:  You have performed with some of today's leading R&B artists such as Trey Songz, Tank, Ginuwine and Marsha Ambrosius, just to name a few.  Who would you love to work with and write music for and why?

Karlos: I would love to work with Rico Love and Eric Bellinger. I mean their songs to me are just mind blowing from topic selection all the way to the creative way they structure the songs and come up with the melodies they do. As far as songwriting goes I’m honestly opened to writing for anybody. Not really any artist I have in mind, but I do know whatever the case I’d definitely come up with a banger and make sure that artist was happy and we captured the emotion and feel that artist was trying to get.

SayWhatNews:  Karlos you have already dropped a hot EP, “Complicated Love Story” which featured 7 songs, when can we expect a new album and what can fans expect?

Karlos: Well, actually my last EP "Complicated Love Story" which dropped last April was mostly an experiment and growth for me. It was incredible working with other writers for that project. It was the first time I had allowed myself to do that and the end result was amazing. My next EP I'm working on is actually titled ( "Karlos With A K:  Chapter 1”, its set to drop in November. The fans can expect this one to be my best work yet. I worked with some pretty incredible people!  My next single "Ice Cream Man" is actually set to be released very soon and Grammy Nominated Producers "The Audibles" actually produced it. I'm super excited for that.

SayWhatNews:  You just recently released your video for your single, “K.R.E.A.M.”  of which  has a catchy up beat tempo with a very memorable chorus: “Dollar, dollar bill ya’ll, K.R.E.A.M. get that money”. What inspired this song?

Karlos: Well first shout out to the writer TheHitMechanix who actually wrote that record. Shout out to David Grants the Producer also. That song was basically just something that came out of the blue lol. I kept wanting a smash club record, but the inspiration for writing one just wasn't there for me so TheHitMechanix stepped in and I played them the beat and within a few hours we had a smash on our hands!

SayWhatNews:  I see you now live on the West Coast.  What do you like to do in your spare time when you are not in the studio?

Karlos: Well i actually live in Detroit right now, but i am on the West coast a lot. When I’m not in the studio i love to be with my family. To me there isn't anything more important than them so I just love to hang out and spend time with them. I also like to hit the movies, go to dinner, just regular stuff ya know....

SayWhatNews:  Last Summer there were some amazing joint Tours for example Beyonce and Jay – Z’s “On the Run Tour”.  If you had front row tickets to a concert, who would be on stage?

Karlos: Usher and Justin Timberlake…..Hands down the most epic concert of ALL TIME. lol

SayWhatNews:  Tell us something about yourself fans don’t already know?

Karlos: I am a huge history nerd. I love everything about history especially everything about world war two. Something about that time frame that just captivates me and keeps me so interested, but all of history is interesting to me.  Another thing most people don't know is that I’m pretty shy lol The irony right?

SayWhatNews:  What’s next in the future for Karlos Farrar?

Karlos: Basically I’m just focused on continuing to build my fan base and put out good music. Within the next 3 years my label ,”FreshazEvaNtertainment” will be in full effect and I hope with my success I can help bring success to the label and sign some amazing talent. I also plan on getting back into acting heavy and landing a few roles.
