Can beauty be measured from within? Many would agree and say yes. A person who shines from within with the positive things they put out in the world has the power to make a change. Bollywood actress Kavita Ragheshyam is beautiful inside and out. Her caring heart has taken her on a courageous journey to save and protect animals from cruelty as she continues to shine on the big screen. SayWhatNews had the pleasure of speaking with Kavita about her rising film career and her fight against animal cruelty:
SayWhatNews: Good morning Kavita. Thanks so much for speaking with SayWhatNews. First, tell us who is Kavita Radheshyam?
Kavita: Hi. It’s a pleasure to speak with SayWhatNews. Your Magazine is an amazing platform to keep my words in a right place. Kavita Radheshyam is yet another Actress who is trying to dream big in a big world. She is honest, frank and straight forward. But she is also a “Bitch” you don’t ever want to mess up with. Kavita Radheshyam feels that she is a good actress for which she has received huge amount of compliments. She’s very emotional too. Kavita Radheshyam never takes Alcohol or Drugs. She hates going to party’s and discotheques. But loves to watch and respect all kinds of Cinema.
SayWhatNews: Kavita you are from Delhi, tell us what was it like growing up in Delhi, India?
Kavita: I love Delhi. Delhi is a place which is always close to my heart as the city has all my childhood memories. But Mumbai is also a City which is very close to my heart as I consider the city as my second home.
SayWhatNews: Do you have any siblings?
Kavita: I have four elder brothers and one elder sister. They say I am the "Little One".
SayWhatNews: At what age did you discover your love for acting and movies?
Kavita: I clearly remember when I was 16, I made myself very clear that I wanted to become an Actress. I used to do Street Plays back home in Delhi.
SayWhatNews: Who was your inspiration to become an Bollywood actress?
Kavita: Every good Actor was, and will always be my inspiration. But Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron and South Indian Actor Kamal Haasan are some of the greatest inspirations whom I have followed.
SayWhatNews: Do you have any professional training (acting class or school)?
Kavita: When I came to Mumbai to become an Actress, I joined Kishore Namit Kapoor (KNK) Acting Academy from where I received my Scholarship in Acting. I was awarded the Best Actress degree there.
SayWhatNews: Tell us how were you discovered?
Kavita: I met Faisal Saif (Director of controversial Hit film ’Jigyaasa’) through a common friend, I had already seen his work and I was very impressed with his gutsy approach towards his script. He was in the scripting stage of his next Psycho Thriller '5 Ghantey Mien 5 Crore' (5 Hours.. 5 Billion) with Pakistani Superstar Meera. He saw me and immediately asked me to play the 2nd Leading Actress for his movie. I was very surprised as he never took any auditions and he was so sure that I would pull the role off the way he wanted.
SayWhatNews: Kavita, your debut in acting was in the TV series 'Who Done It' which was directed by Vikram Bhatt. Tell us about your role and how you got the job?
Kavita: 'Who Done It' is a Chiller Thriller TV Series where I play a Maid who witnesses a murder and the real identity of the killer. The killer now wants to kill me before I reveal his identity to anyone else. How I get killed is the rest of the plot.
I went for the audition of the series and I was selected immediately. In India, Mr. Vikram Bhatt is considered as a legend. It was an honor to work with him. When Mr. Vikram Bhatt applauded on a scene where I performed, It was like winning an Award.
SayWhatNews: You mentioned earlier Film Director Faisal Saif who is a friend to SayWhatNews. Tell us what was it like working with Faisal Saif.
Kavita: Working with Faisal Saif is an amazing experience. He will never let you feel stressed or exhausted. But he entertains you with his crazy pranks and jokes and keeps a relaxed atmosphere on the film sets. If an Actor is not able to perform exactly how Faisal wants, Faisal will act for the Actor also. I think very few people knows that he is also a very good actor, apart from being a Film Maker.
SayWhatNews: This December, you are starring in the film '5 Ghantey Mien 5 Crore'. What's the plot of the movie and what role are you playing?
Kavita: '5 Ghantey Mien 5 Crore' (5 Hours.. 5 Billion) is a psycho horror thriller which stars Pakistani Superstar Meera and Abhishek Kumar along with me. The film tells a story about 3 different people caught in a web of deception, seduction, betrayal, murder and illegal money. We shot the film for about 40 days and 70% of the movie is shot in one single location. I play an exotic dancer in the movie whose boyfriend gets killed and the investigation takes on.
SayWhatNews: What can movie goers expect to get from the movie?
Kavita: This is one of the finest and brilliantly made psycho scary thriller's where you expect all the unexpected twist and turns to take place. I am sure this will be the most talked about thrillers of all time. Film maker Faisal Saif has really worked very hard on this one. Moreover, all the Actors in the movie have performed very well.
SayWhatNews: Many Bollywood actors and actresses have crossed over to star in American movies. Would you ever consider that if the opportunity presented itself?
Kavita: Of course why not? I would love to be a part of such cinema.
SayWhatNews: What actor/actress would you love to work with in a film and why?
Kavita: This is a very difficult question. I would love to work with all the actors as I think I would get an opportunity to learn something from each and every actor. The more I learn, the more I grow. This is what I believe in.
SayWhatNews: Kavita, your nude photo-shoot to fight against Animal Cruelty caused a buzz on the internet. How did you get involved fighting against animal cruelty?
Kavita: I am an animal lover myself. I saw some videos on YouTube and other channels where villagers in India caged some Leopards and burnt them alive. The Leopards couldn’t speak or scream for help as they are mute. I thought that I should take a step of maybe becoming their Voice! I am proud for what I did because in India, no one dared to do this. I am the first one to strip for Animals and the cruelty that takes place on them. I purposely wanted to give that photo’s a porn and a sleazy look so that my cause gets noticed.
I wrote a letter to every organization before taking this step and there were very few who came forward with encouragement.
SayWhatNews: Your passion for animals helped you become the Brand Ambassador for OIPA (International Organization for Animal Protection and Welfare). Tell us about OIPA and their cause to protect animals.
Kavita: OIPA stands for International Organization for Animal Protection and Welfare. It’s an Italy based NGO. I was the Brand Ambassador for the India Sector. The organization claims to be standing in the favor of Cruelty against Animals in India.
SayWhatNews: Now Kavita, you gave up your title as Brand Ambassador for OIPA and started your own Animal Care Movement on the internet called KRAM (Kavita Radheshyam Animal Movement). Tell us about KRAM and what things are you doing to help save the animals.
Kavita: OIPA (India Sector) is headed by it’s representative named Naresh Kadyan. When I was made as a Brand Ambassador, I was very happy. I thought that finally I have someone recognizing my fight against the cruelty on animals that takes place in India. Later, PETA approached me for an interview which I gladly accepted. Somehow, Naresh Kadyan got very upset over this. And later on, I realized that my thoughts and ideas were getting ignored and I was continuously asked to get more Celebrities for the organization. An NGO should concentrate on their cause, But here I saw an NGO who was more interested in taking competitions against another (PETA).
I thought I should end my relation with the organization here, As it would some how tamper with my reputation. I planned to start up my own Internet based Kavita Radheshyam Animal Movement (KRAM) for which I am very happy. For the moment, I am trying to spread Animal Awareness thru my Animal Care Movement, I do have plans to go further with this but it’s too early to speak.
SayWhatNews: That is so courageous of you. Make sure you keep us informed about KRAM and its movement to protect animals against cruelty. How can other animal lovers join in on the cause?
Kavita: At this moment, I would request every animal lover to start spreading the word about my Animal Care Movement. They can join the movement on Facebook and Twitter. They will be updated with all the information and queries as I personally answer every one of them.
SayWhatNews: Can we get personal a bit? Are you still living in India?
Kavita: Yes, I live in India (Mumbai).
SayWhatNews: What do you like to do for fun when you are not working on the set of a film and saving the animals?
Kavita: I love to visit a Cinema Hall and watch a movie. Else, I am watching a Movie on my DVD. I love to go for long drives.
SayWhatNews: Tell us something about yourself that no one knows?
Kavita: Ha.. Ha.. Ha.. Those who are very-very close to me, calls me a ‘Sadist’ bitch.
SayWhatNews: So what type of music do you listen to?
Kavita: I love anything which is a sad or romantic ballad. George Michael is my favorite.
SayWhatNews: What's next in the future for Kavita Radheshyam?
Kavita: Too hard to predict actually, But I want to do good films and want to be remembered for the characters I play on the screen.
