Watching a new artist spread their wings is so creative and magical. Lexie Hofer a young girl from Kansas believed in her talent and love for music and moved to Los Angeles. With new beginnings and her guitar, Lexie is ready to make her mark in the world of music. SayWhatNews sat down with Lexie to talk about her rising music career and much more:
SayWhatNews: Good morning Lexie. It’s such an honor to speak with you. First, tell us in your own words, who is Lexie Hofer?
Lexie: Lexie Hofer is just a normal girl from Kansas who happens to be madly in love with music and is lucky enough to get the opportunity to pursue it. She is silly, crazy, random, and a very good listener.
SayWhatNews: At what age did you discover your love and talent for music?
Lexie: I have loved music my whole life, but it was about 2nd grade when I started to get really in to it.
SayWhatNews: Lexie, you are a 17 year old home schooled girl from Kansas. What inspired you to become a singer/songwriter?
Lexie: I actually just turned 18 in September! Crazy, right? I got really inspired when I had the revelation that music can change the world. Music has helped me through so many hard times and it has always been there for me. I wanted to share my view of music with the world.
SayWhatNews: Oh, well Happy Belated Birthday to you. Now, it’s been just a few years since you moved from Kansas to L.A. and we have seen you walk a few red-carpets with your brother Evan Hofer who is an actor. What has that experience been like for you?
Lexie: It has been a cool experience to be able to be involved in such awesome events. It’s really awesome to have fans come up to my brother and say “Hey! I know you!” It’s neat to know that everybody sees what I’ve seen in him for years.
SayWhatNews: Your musical influences are Stevie Nicks and Taylor Swift. Tell us why these two particular great artists influenced you as an artist?
Lexie: Stevie is an amazing artist to me because she always writes from such a deep place and she has always stayed true to herself, which I admire. I have learned to write my music from that same deep place because magic can happen there. I love Taylor Swift because she is the ultimate role model. I hope to be that great of a role model for people.
SayWhatNews: Lexie, your sound is Pop/Country infused with a Folk-like quality. What sets you apart from other artists with a similar sound?
Lexie: I come about music from such a deep perspective that not a lot of other artists do. My voice is also very unique because it can be clear, but yet edgy. The songs I write are also a cool balance of clean and edgy that no other artist has.
SayWhatNews: Your music catalog already has some great hits like, “Strange Weather”, “A Secret I Can’t Keep” and “Writing On the Wall”. Why do you feel your music has a reoccurring theme of sad love, happy love and being love sick?
Lexie: I think it is because love is such a relatable subject to people and it’s so fun to write about!
SayWhatNews: Lexie your music is all about emotion. What do you want your fans to learn/take away from listening to your music?
Lexie: I want them to know that there is always someone out there who understands what they are feeling. I write from all real life experiences, so when someone listens to my music; they are getting a glimpse of what’s inside me. I want them to feel comfort in knowing they are not alone. I also what them to be able to feel something that maybe they’ve never felt before.
SayWhatNews: Who would you love to collaborate with and why?
Lexie: I would love to collaborate with Dolly Parton because she is such a prolific songwriter and she has a very similar writing style as I do. Also because she is a legend!
SayWhatNews: Oh, I am a huge fan of Dolly Parton. I think that would be an awesome collaboration. So, you recently performed at Music Row Live. How did that come to be and tell us about that experience singing in front of an audience?
Lexie: My manager hooked me up with the gig and it was such a cool experience. Performing is my favorite thing to do because being with an audience and touching their hearts in person is what it’s all about.
SayWhatNews: Lexie besides being a singer/songwriter you also play the guitar. How long have you been playing the guitar and are you self taught or did you take lessons?
Lexie: I’ve been playing for about 3 years and my guitar is my best friend. I actually named her Earie. I took lessons for a short time when I was younger, but in the last 2 years I have taught myself, with a little help from YouTube.
SayWhatNews: That’s so interesting; YouTube has become the tutorial for everything and everybody. For example, I learned how to braid hair by watching YouTube. Lexie, your website launched in July of 2011 and it looks great. When can we expect an album?
Lexie: Thanks! I love how the website turned out. We don’t have an exact date, but the album will be out sometime next year.
SayWhatNews: I hear you took acting classes at the Acting Center. How has that training helped your music performance?
Lexie: It helped so much to take acting class, but I apply it towards music. It really helped me get good at finding the right emotions and the right words to portray what I’m feeling. Also, it helps with the performance aspect of music in that it shows you how to create a believable and real performance for your audience.
SayWhatNews: Lexie, you also are working on a project called “The Misfits” which is a webisodes series. The role Onyx was written especially for you. How did that happen?
Lexie: A bunch of friends from my acting class and myself were talking one night and we talked about how we felt like misfits in the industry. So, one of my friends wrote a web series and based the characters on us.
SayWhatNews: Do you know when we can expect to see the first webisode and where we can view it?
Lexie: We never ended up taping the web series, but we created a nice family project. The cast still stays in touch and maybe one day the script will go somewhere.
SayWhatNews: So, tell us what do you like to do in your spare time?
Lexie: Of course I love to write. I play guitar and write any chance I get. When I’m not writing, I like to shop and take pictures. I also love people watching. There are so many different types of people in this world and it’s so interesting to see how different people act.
SayWhatNews: You also volunteer in your spare time to different charitable organizations. Why do you feel it’s so important to give back?
Lexie: I feel it’s important because there is always someone less fortunate than you and I believe that everyone needs a helping hand. It also makes me feel great when I give back because I have been given so much in this life, so I know how great it feel’s when someone who cares takes the time to help you. You can never give enough blessings.
SayWhatNews: That is so true. If everyone would ask themselves this question every day, “How can I be a blessing to someone else today?” the world would be a better place. What’s next in the future for Lexie Hofer?
Lexie: Building a time machine! Just kidding, I joke a lot. In the future I will be writing some awesome new material and recording it and also going on tour.
