Jurassic World Opening Weekend Box Office #'s Breaks U.S. History /Plus Review

photo: Facebook

Jurassic World's opening weekend box office #'s breaks U.S. history and kicks Avengers out of the #1 spot for the biggest box office opening weekend ever in U.S. history with $209 million.  According to reports the opening numbers are still being tallied but as of now Jurassic World's numbers beat out the Avengers $207.4 million opening weekend.

Variety reports: Globally, Jurassic World” became the first movie to cross $500 million in a single weekend. It debuted to a massive $100 million in China and opened in first place in all 66 international territories where the film was released. Based on that performance, Contrino said the film will cross the $1 billion mark “without even blinking.

Review:  Jurassic World is epic.  The movie is best being described as the "BOMB".  I have to say it, Jurassic World is even better than the first Jurassic Park film (and I love me some Jeff Goldblum).  The storyline was believable and the characters were relate-able and likeable.  The film is full of action packed adventure that keeps you on the edge of your seat and it had some memorable funny moments that blended well in the film.

Chris Pratt is the man.  He commanded every scene he was in and was able to remain the star even when he was sharing the screen with his Raptors.  Speaking of the Raptors...Pratts relationship with them was heart wrenching at moments and really displayed the mechanics of the Alpha, Beta and the remaining pack.  For those who saw the movie, Blue stole the show. And Pratt's onscreen chemistry with Bryce Dallas Howard was pure magic.  Bryce took hold of her heroine role and took charge.  She is truly growing into her own and has become one of the top lead female actress to date.

And of course the Dinosaurs in the movie are AWESOME.  I don't want to give it all away but lets to just say the film is a must-see and has my stamp of approval.  I have been totally remade into a Jurassic fan and plan on doing dusting off my DVD's and running a Jurassic Park marathon.

Storyline: Twenty-two years after the events of Jurassic Park, Isla Nublar now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, as originally envisioned by John Hammond. After 10 years of operation and visitor rates declining, in order to fulfill a corporate mandate, a new attraction is created to re-spark visitor's interest, which backfires horribly.

Cast: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins and more.

Release date: June 12th

FOX's Empire Gets Season 2 Premiere Date and More

FOX's hit TV show Empire gets a season 2 premiere date.  Empire fans can now relax because the announcement has officially been made that season 2 will premiere September 23rd on FOX.  So all the cancellation rumors are false.

Plus we now know that the Fall season will has been expanded to 18 episodes instead of the 12 episodes of which the first season debuted.  The 2nd season will be split the 18 episodes into two halves.

And as far as the rumor that says Empire will move from its Wednesday time slot, CEO Gary Newman, squashes that rumor by saying, We’d be crazy to move it, Fox chairman and CEO Gary Newman told reporters ahead of the network’s upfront presentation on Monday morning. We want to thank and reward our fans by keeping it in that time period… The stories we’ve heard already for season 2 will blow away the audience.

As for the second season, CEO Dana Walden talks guest stars, “We’ve also got amazing guest stars that have lined up to be on the show that will help us not only bring back an audience that fell in love with the show, but help expand it as well.” Empire has also signed Ne-Yo to write new original music with Timbaland for the second out.

Last we heard Chris Rock, Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz have all signed on to guest star in season 2.

We keep you updated as more news breaks.....

Movie Review: SPY - Best Comedy Spy Film of the Summer

Movie Review: SPY is the best comedy spy film of the Summer. The laughs were from start to finish.  I have never laughed so hard at the movie theater. The storyline is believeable and keeps you interested and entertained from the moment the film begins.  Melissa McCarthy is one of the best living comedic actresses.  She just has a natural talent of being funny and her physical comedy just tops the cake.  Miranda Hart played McCarthy's sidekick and she was a joy to watch, I am officically one of her new fans.  Jason Statham's role isn't his typical spy/action hero role.  In SPY he plays an arrogant spy who thinks he is the best at what he does but really he is a big blunder.(love it/he played  it well).  Rose Byrne played the villain well, you loved to hate her and loved her again by the end.  Jude Law, well its Jude Law (lol).  Law, once again proved that he does have the comedic gene and held his own up against McCarthy.

SPY gets my final stamp of approval and it definitely a must-see.  I am hoping that SPY becomes a franchise and comes out with more films.

Storyline: A desk-bound CIA analyst volunteers to go undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer, and prevent diabolical global disaster.

Cast: Melissa McCarthy, Jude Law, Jason Statham, Rose Byrne and more.

Sanaa Latahn, Morris Chestnut and Michael Ealy star in the upcoming thriller, The Perfect Guy.  From the looks of the trailer, this film is sure to be this Fall's blockbuster.

Michael Ealy has really proven that he can be/play more than just the sexy boyfriend role.  Just this past Spring, Ealy portrayed the psycho killer on FOX's hit show The Following and lets just say he truly made you think he was a psycho killer.

Having Sanaa Lathan and Morris Chestnut starring in a movie together you get the best of both worlds.  Not only do you have two amazing actors together starring in lead roles......their on screen chemistry is sexy, hot and just down right natural.  And when you have Lathan and Chestnut together in the same film, you are never disappointed.

Recap: Defiance Season 3 Premiere  was Awesomely Treacherous

SyFy's Defiance season 3 was awesomely treacherous during its 2-hour premiere. Nolan awakens inside the mines to find a purple scary creator hovering over him about to take a huge bite of his neck and then is knocked out again and finds himself awakening in the cold snow near an unconscious Irisa.  The father and daughter duo team up and head back to Defiance.  Irisa learns she is the heroine of some novel and she is not pleased one bit of being the face of this stupid book.  While Irisa waits for Nolan to return from meeting with Amanda, she receives a horrific beat down from the female officer who see's her  as the "killer of everything".  After Nolan learns of the town shortage of gulanite which effects the towns defenses, he and Amanda find Irisa during her beat down.  Nolan saves the day.  Nolan reveals that he had encountered 2 strange purple creators inside the caved down mines and that the creators must know of someway to get in and out so they have to go find the creators and get them to help them so they can access the gulanite and save the town.

Nolan, Amanda and Irisa return to the mines and come across the female purple creator.  Amanda shoots the young creator and they take her back to town to get medical treatment.  The Doc at first refuses to treat the creator and educates Nolan, Amanda and Irisa on what the purple creator is.  The two creators are members of the presumed-exterminated, purple-skinned Omec.  Doc finally yet reluctantly treats the female Omec's wound after they chained her to the wall in a cell.  After that 3 teen boys including the book-keepers son decided to go take a look at the strange unknown captive creator.  The book-keepers son decided to use a steal rod and poke at the creator through the window.  Well, the female Omec was not happy about that so she snatched the rod and while the book-keepers son was peeking thru the whole in the glass window the Omec shoved the rod through the boys eye all the way through to the back of his head. Enraged the female Omec escapes and when the town learns of the boys death they surround her and start to beat her almost to death.  While all this was going on Nolan had been talking the the male Omec and learned that his name is T’evgin and his daughter name is Kindzi.  Just when he was about to agree to help them get the gulanite from mines they here the roar from Kindzi and by the time they find her she has been beaten badly.  T'evgin is ready to kill the book-keeper for what he has done to his daughter but Nolan convinces him to hold off because saving his daughter was more important.  They rush Kindzi back to the Doc.  When T'evgin learns what species the Doc is he reveals that her kind was only created to help heal his kind.  In a shocking twist they (Nolan, Irisa & Amanda) hold Doc down against her will and take a huge section of her skin to help heal Kindzi.

Else where in the deep woods the story picks back up with Pilar, Christie, Quentin and Alak (from season 2 finale), except now its months later and Christie has given birth to baby Luke.  Pilar seems to be the caring Grandmother because she has the baby outside in the cold trying to help him with his colic.  But inside Alak is chained to the floor while sitting at a table with Christie.  The two seemed to be attempting to come up with away to escape.  Stahma, Datak and Rafe have teamed up to find their children together.  Just when they find the home hidden in the woods they find themselves in the paths by General Rahm and his army.  Stahma quickly puts on her charms and gets on the General's good side and convinces him that they have captured Rafe who has a big bounty on his head if returned alive.  Rahm welcomes Stahma into the fold but still doubts Datak who is still deemed a trader.  Alak convinces his mother-in-law Pilar to unchain him and allow him to help her out in the woods, while they are gone Rahm and his men stumble upon the house and Quentin goes outside to try to befriend the angry group.  Rahm doesn't believe anything Quentin says and shoots him in the head as Rafe watches the murder of his son from inside the truck.  Rahm truly hates humans and proves it over and over again.  Christie immediately grabs her baby and hides in the closet covering the baby with a coat.  One of Rahm's men finds Christie hiding in the closet but luckily baby Luke stayed quiet and remains safe. The solider drags Christie to the main room where Stahma and Datak are with Rahm.  Rafe unlocks his chains (thanks to Datak) and kills a solider and takes his gun.  He then proceeds to the house and rushes in to save his daughter and grand-baby.  Rafe is captured and Rahm shoots him several times. He falls to the floor and he reaches for his daughter hand.  Christie hovers over her father's dead body crying.  Rahm then shockingly tells Stahma to prove her loyalty by killing Christie.  Stahma horrified looks at Datak as she takes Rahms blade.  She seems to hesitate and Rahm says I knew you couldn't do it.  Christie stands up and bravely takes her own hand across her neck and says its ok I am not afraid.  Stahma than takes the blade and slits Christie's throat and she falls down across her father's body and her neck bleeds out.  They all leave and finally Pilar and Alak make it back to the house.  Alak finds his wife dead and breaks down.  Pilar goes to be with her dead daughter and estranged husband sides.  But wait, Rafe isn't dead, at least not yet.  He manages enough strength to tell Alak to love his baby as much as he loved his wife Christie, his daughter.

For the moment it seemed Alak and Pilar had come to an understanding to work together and take care of baby Luke but when Alak went to sleep, Pilar ran off with the baby leaving Alak somewhere deep in the woods.  Alak sees some truck lights in the distance and starts yelling help me she took my baby.

Back at Defiance, they finally turned the city's power back on but back in the mines the Omec went back to their ship and we learn there are more than just 2 Omecs, try thousands sleeping in a slumber on some mega ship and apparently the gulanite is going to help awaken the rest of the group and once that happens they plan on taking over the world and killing everybody else.

Here is a look at Episode 3 airing June 19th:

Grey's Fans Fight Back: Petition Started to Save McDreamy

Grey's Anatomy fans fight back and start a petition to save McDreamy after the shocking death of Patrick Dempsey's character Derek 'McDreamy' Shepherd.  Petitioner Courtney Williams started a petition to rally fans together to help get the message to Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes that they are not happy one bit about the demise of one of their favorite characters.

Williams message to Rhimes is loud and clear, fans are not happy with the cruel way their dearly beloved Derek/McDreamy was killed off:

"You've destroyed us. COMPLETELY!" Williams wrote. "Why Shonda, Why? Why would you do us like this? Dedicated and die-hard fans! We DO NOT deserve this!"

Williams goes on to say that Rhimes and co. can -- and should -- explain away Derek's death as merely a dream or a hallucination. As it stands now, Williams writes, the fans -- who are allegedly "not sleeping nor eating because of this tragic turn of events" -- are ready to revolt.

"You HAVE TO BRING DEREK BACK! NOW! IMMEDIATELY!" the petition states. " ... We should sue. Because this is just wrong! ... You do NOT get to toy with our lives and emotions like this Shonda, NO! That is NOT RIGHT! How do you sleep at night?!?!!"

Patrick Dempsey himself seems to be fine with the demise of his character, in an recent interview with Entertainment Weekly  he says, "I think any time an original cast member has left, there's always a void that will never be filled," the actor told EW. "Shepherd is a beloved character. People don't want to lose him. He's been in their lives for over 10 years. But it goes on, and it will evolve."

But wait, what about the reports that Shonda Rhimes fired Dempsey (before his recently signed 2 year contract was up) due to Dempsey's "Diva like behavior on set".  Apparently having a big Hollywood star ego is something Rhimes does not put up with because allegedly that's why Catherine Heigl was removed from the show.

Hmmm we will keep you posted if anything changes.  As of right now the petition has over 97,000 signatures and has received a lot of media coverage so maybe Rhimes will reconsider.

Arrow's Star Confirms Green Lantern Talks

photo: screenrant

Could it be?  Is Arrow's John Diggle really John Stewart aka the Green Lantern?  The actor David Ramsey who plays John Diggle, on the CW's hit show Arrow has confirmed that he is in talks to play Green Lantern by telling showrunners that "their considering it".

According to Screenrant.com this just might be a possibility because the two characters back stories are very similar:

"When Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) was first saddled with his new bodyguard, John Diggle (“Dig” to his friends), it didn’t take long for the soft-spoken, imposing character to become a fan-favorite. But as his military service, fearless devotion to his deceased brother – and later, his wife and child – became more prominent, the question of whether John could really be John Stewart was raised.

As the successor to Hal Jordan as a member of the Green Lantern Corps in the comics and animated Justice League universe, Stewart shared a similar military past. And with Diggle’s middle name still a mystery, fans started to connect the dots, predicting a potentially massive twist in the works.

It seemed like nothing more than wishful thinking – Green Lantern on the small screen? – but when directly asked by ComicBook.com about the rumor, Ramsey gives a shocking response:

Is John Diggle John Stewart? I cannot say “yes,” and I cannot say, “no.” I’m serious! I do know that there is serious discussion about whether or not this guy becomes John Stewart. But, I mean, I’ll say this: it is top secret. I’ve asked them and they’re like, “we’re working on some stuff.” If that’s the case, it’s gonna be huge. This is the stuff they want to avoid. I think they don’t want anybody to know yet and they haven’t even told me. But they have told me that they are thinking about it and that they are considering it. But they’re not going to release anything yet. That’s exactly what they told me. Greg Berlanti told me that. Andrew [Kreisberg] and Marc [Guggenheim] have told me that. I haven’t spoken to Geoff Johns about it. But that’s the word from people directly involved in Arrow- that they’re working on something.

“Here’s the truth of it: if I knew, I would tell you I know the answer to that, but I’m not at liberty to tell you that. I would answer like that. I probably wouldn’t tell you anyway, but I would at least tell you that I know. I honestly do not know."

With the success of Arrow and The Flash, this would be a cool way to give Diggle hopefully really John Stewart in hiding, a spin-off show starring the Green Lantern.

ROOTS Gets A Re-boot with Former Star LeVar Burton at the Helm as Co-Executive Producer

ROOTS gets a re-boot with the former star LeVar Burton at the helm as Co-Executive Producer.  The mini-series will make its return to the small screen in 2016 and be simultaneously broadcast on the History Channel, A&E, and Lifetime.

The new version of Roots will take more material from Alex Haley's 1976 novel Roots: The Saga of an American Family, on which the iconic 1977 series was based. Haley won a Pulitzer prize for his work.

In the original televised series, Burton played a young Kunta Kinte, a man born in Gambia in 1750 who was kidnapped in 1767 and then enslaved in America.

"My career began with Roots and I am proud to be a part of this new adaptation," Burton said in a statement. "There is a huge audience of contemporary young Americans who do not know the story of Roots or its importance. I believe now is the right time to tell this story so that we can all be reminded of its impact on our culture and identity."

Will Packer was also named as a co-executive producer. Packer has produced a number of successful Hollywood films with black casts, including Stomp the Yard and the upcoming biopic Straight Outta Compton.

The Roots novel and original miniseries told the story of a black American family in the mid-20th century tracing their lineage -- based on Haley's own ancestry -- back to Kunta Kinte's childhood in Gambia and passage to America on a slave ship. From there, subsequent generations experience unique challenges of being black in America during significant historical periods including the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and the end of slavery after the the Emancipation Proclamation.

The new version will tell the same story, with "carefully researched new scholarship."

Supergirl's Full Costume Revealed

Supergirl's official full costume has been revealed.  The promotional pictures featuring Melissa Benoist as Supergirl have been shockingly released by CBS when the norm is to keep things close to the vest (in secret) until its time to start promoting the show.

Academy Award winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, who also designed the costumes for both The CW’s Arrow and The Flash, says she wanted to stay true to the history of Supergirl but also wanted to bring the character into the future:

“In designing Supergirl, I wanted to embrace the past, but more importantly, thrust her into the street-style action hero of today.”

The costume has changed, the colors are much darker then the Supergirl costume from the 1980's movie and the hit TV show Smallville.

Take a look: (Left: 80's Supergirl movie/ Right: Smallvilles Supergirl)

Supergirl is set to premiere sometime in 2015 on CBS.  Hopefully Melissa Benoist and the writers can do Kara aka Supergirl justice.
